We have been building log homes for over 18
years.
We do a variety of things at Deist Log
Homes.
We custom design and build log homes to
your specifications.
We sell log cabin kits that you can
assemble your self.
We sell logs in many different sizes and
shapes.

We sell hand peeled spindles, rails, posts and beams for use in
log homes and furniture.

We also do log home maintenance,
construction and repair.
We strip, refinish, and stain new and old
log homes.
You can put a loft in any of our houses
by changing the pitch of the roof. We also make 2" x 6" tongue and
grooved board that can be used as your ceiling or floor in the loft. Our
logs adapt to any plan that you have. You can buy the logs separately, buy a
kit for you to erect, buy a shell erected, or a complete package from us.
These plans can be built on cement slab or a full basement.
The
logs are not treated upon delivery, but it is recommended that a Rymar
sealer is applied as soon as the walls are up in order to seal and hold the
color of the logs.
A second application should be
applied in 6 months. This will be sufficient for some time then it should be
stained whenever necessary.
Our logs are purchased as
6" x 8", or 4" x 6" timbers. They are random lengths:
8', 10', 12',14' or 16' long. These timbers are run through our special
machine and come out as full logs or log siding.
Our full log
is a double tongue and grooved log and measures 5 1/2" x 7 1/2".
When building with our logs we recommend drilling a hole every two to three
feet in each log and nailing together with a 10" pole barn nail. Our
foam rubber insulation strip lies on top of both tongues of our log. This
special log foam rubber insulation has a memory and although compressed,
when assembled the logs will settle and the foam will regain its original
size.
At every joint, where the logs meet, we make a chain
saw cut on both logs and put in a wood spline. This prevents any chance of
air getting through the joints due to log shrinkage.
The
corners are the only place where a triangle of caulk is used. We factory
machine a special corner on each row of logs and this is supplied with our
kit. It is recommended that the builder cuts out a chain saw slot and adds a
spline at each corner. With our logs or siding it takes 17 rows to make an 8
foot wall (93.5").
The Forestry department will
give our logs an R factor of 13, but with our logs you have a solid
interlocked wall with no cold air in between studs as in a conventional
home.
When building any log home the builder must provide
clearance above doors and windows for shrinkage.
For people
that want flexibility in their log homes we have started a new design
concept. If you want more R-factor in the walls, you can now have R-30/35
using two 2": x 6" studs, our ship-lapped log siding, six inches of
insulation and an option to use drywall, paneling or log siding on the
inside walls.
We have developed a full log corner, which is separate
piece that interlocks during construction. This log home is not as expensive
as a complete full log home. Our siding can also be used to cover an
existing building or interior wall.
